Welcome to the CDL Training Program at CBC!
Âé¶¹´«Ã½ College offers CDL Class A and Class B training programs across its Beeville, Alice, Kingsville, and Pleasanton campuses. Both programs begin with two weeks of online self-paced training through the Blackboard Learning Shell, followed by intensive driving instruction.
- CDL Class B Training involves two weeks of online coursework followed by a two-week driving component on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- CDL Class A Training involves two weeks of online coursework followed by a four-week driving component. For further information, please review the CDL Class A training schedule below.
Students attend their driving portion from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday for both class A and B training programs. The licensing exam is administered during the final week of driving training, with three attempts allowed.
Class B vs. Class A License:
- Class A:
- Authorizes an individual to drive a single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
- A combination of vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 pounds or more provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds
- Any Class B or C vehicle
- Class B:
- Authorizes an individual to drive a single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more
- Single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more that is towing a vehicle with a GVWR that does not exceed 10,000 pounds or a farm trailer with a GVWR that does not exceed 20,000 pounds
- A bus with a seating capacity of 24 passengers or more including the driver
- Any Class C vehicle
How to Enroll into the CDL Training Program:
- Submit Your Application:
- Download the CDL training program application here!
- Complete the application form.
- Send the completed application (in doc, docx, pdf, or photocopy format) to ce@coastalbend.edu.
- Prepare Required Documents:
- DOT Physical: Schedule an appointment with your physician to have a Department of Transportation physical exam. They will provide you with a completed form.
- Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP): Visit your local Department of Public Safety office to test for a CLP. You will need to pass a knowledge test specific to your desired CDL class (A or B). Refer to the resources section for details on the tests. Commercial Learner’s Permits are only valid for six months and must be valid until the end of your course.
- Driver's License: Make a photocopy of your current valid driver's license.
- Choose Your Course and Review Tuition:
- Weeks 1-2 = online coursework
- Weeks 3-4 = behind-the-wheel training (Mondays and Wednesdays)
- Weeks 5-6 = behind-the-wheel training (Monday - Thursday)
- Weeks 1-2 = online coursework
- Weeks 3-4 = behind-the-wheel training (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

- Kingsville: July 7 – July 17 (instruction); July 21 – August 19 (driving)
- Pleasanton: August 11 – August 22 (instruction); August 25 – September 19 (driving)
- Alice: September 15 – September 26 (instruction); September 29 – October 24 (driving)
- Beeville: May 26 – June 5 (instruction); June 9 – June 19 (driving)
- Kingsville: July 7 – July 17 (instruction); July 21 – July 31 (driving)
- Pleasanton: August 11 – August 22 (instruction); August 25 – September 5 (driving)
- Alice: September 15 – September 26 (instruction); September 29 – October 10 (driving)
